How To Set Up An Online Business. If you’ve been considering setting up an online business you’ve most likely been motivated by someone you know that is doing it, or you’ve stumbled or googled across the many stories of success that people are having.
More and more people are buying products and services online. There are many avenues to do this, including but not limited to, network marketing, affiliate marketing, shopify, dropshipping, coaching, e commerce and the list goes on.
Here are the 6 steps to follow to set up an online business.
1. Which Market Are You Into?
If you’re going to set up an online business your first task is to determine what type of business it’s going to be. Be realistic as this isn’t an overnight get rich quick medium. It takes time and patience. Are you going to sell products or services? You can sell your own products or you can sell products produced by other businesses who will pay you commissions on your sales. Make sure that you determine your niche market and that you can provide services or products to that market. Preferably not one that everyone is doing, or if you can, you will stand out if you have something that is unique, and is going to be around for a long time providing you an income. Or you may choose to offer teaching and coaching services online.
2. Set Your Website Up.
Getting a website online isn’t as complicated as you may think. Initially you’ll need to purchase a name for your website (known as a domain name). Go Daddy is one, google it to get a discount on your 1st year. Next you need to ‘rent’ some space on the internet (known as website hosting). Hostgator is one of many that is quite popular. Lastly you’ll need a software package that will make it possible for you to put written text, images, videos etc onto your website. Usually the platform you use for hosting will have attached packages for doing this.
3. Get Traffic To Your Website
When your website is up and running you then need people to find it or visit.. There are two main ways to do this. You can use free website traffic techniques or paid website traffic techniques. Both have their pros and cons. If you want to build it fast then you will be best to use the paid version. Usually it’s best to try both and gauge which one best suits your needs.
4.Develop A Customer List.
It’s usually not the case that your website visitors will want to buy anything from you on their first visit to your website. The key is to offer something of value and free such as a free report or ebook. Use a capture page to obtain their name and email address so that you can stay in touch with your offers and trainings. The key then is consistency because once they get to know, trust and like you, they will stick with you and purchase your recommended products or services. As you grow you will then want to have an automated email service such as Aweber. There are quite a few out there, just google and check out the comparisons of each and choose the one that will suit you.
5. Provide Value and Consistency.
The key is to stay consistent and not be be like a used car salesman. Offer consistent and free content and along the way they will be buying the tools and supplies /equipment that you will be recommending. The know, like, and trust factor is well in place and they are open to your suggestions as they see you as the expert or professional.
Even though the internet is highly competitive, it will always have room for the novices to come through. After all, the experts that you see now all had to start somewhere, they just didn’t pop up and become an instant hit. They all had one thing in common- they stayed the distance and were consistent.
Above all, you need to enjoy what you are doing. If you don’t then it’s not for you. This is very much a long term business and will take time to build, just like anything else. You will need to mange your time, especially if you are working, have a family, and a social life. Get yourself organised by using a planner, such as googles calender, and stay committed and consistent.
